'Fore' The Future

Golf and sustainability might not seem like an obvious pair, but there’s so much happening to make the game more eco-friendly. Every month, we’ll dive into some examples of how golf is embracing the environment and share how we’re applying those ideas to what we do at Stanners. It’s all about keeping the game we love sustainable—for the planet, the course, and future generations.

Sunshine Coast Eco Open, Australia (January 2025)

Taking place in one of the most biodiverse regions of Australia, the Sunshine Coast Eco Open is blending golf with environmental education. This event features carbon-offset initiatives, such as planting a tree for every participant, and introduces golfers to eco-friendly innovations, including solar-powered lighting and water-saving irrigation systems. Much like the Eco Open’s focus on renewable energy and conservation, we have been working to continually improve sustainability at Stanners. Inspired by planting initiatives such as the Sunshine Coast tree planting, we have introduced ‘plantable wildflower seed labels’ to our upcoming release. This introduction will enable customers to plant the labels they typically throw in the bin, and grow them into a variety of wildflowers, including poppy's, cornflowers, coneflowers, New England asters and many more!

Scottish Highlands Green Golf Festival (January 2025)

Scotland is embracing its role as a leader in sustainable golf with the Scottish Highlands Green Golf Festival. This event will showcase organic turf management techniques and offer workshops on how courses can reduce chemical fertilisers. Golfers will also participate in a zero-waste initiative, which includes composting leftover food from the event. The principles behind this festival, natural resource management and zero waste, mirror our dedication to minimising environmental impact. The festival's focus on natural resource management and zero waste aligns with a growing movement to minimise environmental impact. At Stanners, we’re proud to embrace these principles in our own work. Our upcoming release celebrates the circular economy, with 100% of the fabric used in our hats made from recycled materials. The Scottish Highlands Green Golf Festival serves as an inspiring reminder of the importance of minimising waste and rethinking disposable habits. As we prepare to launch our new collection, we are committed to closing the loop on disposable fashion and creating products that reflect a more sustainable future. Stay tuned for our latest release – we can’t wait to share it with you!

The Winter Greens Invitational, California (December 2024)

The Winter Greens Invitational is set to become a benchmark for eco-friendly golfing practices. Held at an award-winning course committed to sustainability, this event will use solar-powered golf carts and emphasise native grass restoration projects. Players are encouraged to use refillable water bottles, supported by hydration stations around the course, eliminating single-use plastics entirely. Inspired by the Winter Greens Invitational’s commitment to eliminating single-use plastics, we’ve spent the colder months reflecting on how we can reduce plastic throughout our product lifecycle. One significant step forward has been the introduction of our new recycled cardboard shipping boxes, which further aligns with the Invitational’s ethos of sustainability. At Stanners, we believe sustainability is not just a trend but a responsibility. Events like the Winter Greens Invitational remind us of the power of collective action in protecting our planet. Together, through small yet meaningful changes, we can make a lasting impact. Stay tuned as we continue our journey towards creating a more sustainable future!
